Bormes les Mimosas was described on the Internet as one of the prettiest villages in the Var (the department where it is located) and one decorated with flowers. We were not disappointed. As we drove up the hill - up and up - we knew we would be rewarded with views of the Mediterranean but we didn't expect what a quintessential Provencal village it would be. It had everything - the little square, cafés and restaurants along the ramparts, quaint shops, narrow winding ruelles (alleys) and, of course, flowers even at this time of the year.
After our stop there, we followed the coastline toward Le Lavandou and St. Tropez but, before the road turned west to the latter, we went north to Port Grimaud. This place is described as the Venice of Province - for good reason! You have to park outside the village even if you are a resident. Instead of parking your car in front of your home, you park your boat - and there are hundreds of them everywhere! This was also our lunch stop. We had burgers and, yes, there are decent ones along this coast although the service at La Licorne could certainly have been better!
After lunch, we still had lots of time so we just following the coastline road through Ste. Maxine, Frejus, St. Raphael (where the ochre-coloured landscape is breathtaking), Cannes, and Antibes to the Cote d'Azur airport in Nice.
We said good bye there and I took a taxi into the city and checked into the Hotel Suisse. I'd treated myself to a room with a balcony overlooking the bay and the Promenade des Anglaises and I was not disappointed. The view was lovely and once the doors were closed, the road noise disappeared.
